3rd Place Pup

In the Obedience Trial, Spek took 3rd place. In the end, it wasn't his talent, obedience or undivided attention to his trainer (that's me), it was the 2.4 hours of shampooing and brushing I slaved over that wowed the judges. I think I broke my stylus in the process.

Here you can see him chewing up the prize cup. His prize winnings? A measely $30.

In order to pay the bills (doggie shampoo doesn't grow on trees you know), I entered Spek into the Obedience Trial. But why is Bill Gates moonlighting as a Nintendogs announcer?

Lately I've been teaching him to play Frisbee. He's getting pretty good at it too considering the Frisbee is twice as big. I'll have to get him to work and win some competitions if I ever want to buy another dog. He also continues to eat things he finds off the sidewalk when I take him out for a walk. Hot dogs, potato skins, you name it. It's gross!

I finally picked up my puppy at the electronics stor…er kennel. He’s from the Nintendogs Chihauhua & Friends cartridge. What? It was the only one left! OK, so I wanted a Chihauahu. What?! Oh I see, if I was raising a virtual puppy Rottweiler, that’d make me more of a man.

Anyway, his name is Spek (as in spek of dust). It turns out spek isn’t really a word after all, at least according to Google. Which I guess makes it appropriate since he’s not really a dog either. But we must lower our voices. ;)

In the first day I taught him to sit, lay down and do the dishes. Kidding about the dishes – I wish! I was trying to force a roll-over trick, but he promptly flipped me the paw (which I DIDN’T teach him), and said he was done for the day learning. Go figure. A sassy game. You’ll just have to wait for a photo (if I can EVER get him to stop licking his hindquarters).

Off to the Pound. OK, more like off to Futureshop.

So I'm finally dusting off my Nintendo DS after having it sit idle for a month (except for the casual Mario play), and adopting a Nintendog or two. You gotta love the recent price drop. Sucks to be me!

I've always liked (other people's) dogs, though never owned a pet larger than a goldfish. And even then, Mom cleaned the tank. Now that I'm a full-grown adult, I think I can upgrade myself to a serious pet. OK, so I can flip the lid shut when a virtual piddle happens, but it's a start. Let's hope I don't accidentally starve the poor thing in the first day.
